  • ¼ cup of water
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp pat butter
  • ½ tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tbsp Kosher salt
  • ¼ tbsp pinch red pepperflakes
  • 2 tbsp dried basil
  • 3-5 garlic minced
  • 1 finely dicedmedium onion
  • 2 tbsp olive oil


  • Heat the olive oil over high heat until itshimmers. The onions should sizzle and hiss as they cook. Add the garlic. Stirto combine. This prevents the garlic from burning. Cook an additional twominutes. Add the basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and sugar. Stir to combine.Add the butter. Stir, cook for about a minute.
  • Now you need to saute the onions, stirringfrequently, for about three minutes. Or until they become softer and shiny. Addthe garlic to this mixture and stir it for some time. This will prevent thegarlic from burning. Cook it for additional 3 minutes.
  • Add the butter, basil, red pepper flakes,salt, and sugar to this mixture and again stir it for 1 more minute.
  • Add 28 ounces of the crushed tomatoes. Stir it continuously and scrape the bottom of the pan to remove any stuck-on bits.
  • Now, reduce the heat to low. Add 1/4 cup ofwater and mix it with the sauce. If the sauce seems too thick then add morewater.
  • Turn off the heat. Your sauce needs tosimmer. So, leave it for about 10 to 30 minutes.
